Dr. Eugenio Jose Ramos, senior vice president of Medical City in Pasig, told reporters that Corona is considered a "very high-risk patient" and doctors are treating him for "possible acute coronary syndrome or heart attack."
Corona, a diabetic, was brought to the hospital Tuesday evening for "shortness of breath, cold sweats and light-headedness" after suffering from hypoglycemia, according to the medical bulletin.
Meanwhile, Senate doctor Mariano Blancia arrived at the Medical City to confirm Corona's condition as ordered by Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.
Yesterday, Enrile said that if the chief justice will not be able to return on Wednesday for cross examination, his testimonies will be stricken off the record and the case will be considered submitted for resolution.
Earlier, Supreme Court spokesperson Midas Marquez said in a radio interview that a blood test on Corona showed he had elevated Troponin T levels and the diagnosis is a possible heart attack.
Marquez said he is not sure if the chief justice will be able to take the witness stand on Wednesday as ordered by the impeachment court.
